| This is the beautiful beach of Paje, one of the most pristine of the island and fortunately still not reached by mass tourism. Just a minute's walk through a path of fine as talcum powder white sand will lead you here. Paje by Night offers its guests sunbeds, umbrellas and beach towels service against deposit of usd 5. As the rest of the coast of Zanzibar, Paje is also subject to tides. The perception of the tides [whose gradient is the same across all the island] depends on the shape of the coastline: in the north it descends sharply into the ocean while at east it slopes down very slightly. It follows that while at north long stretches of beach are submerged at high tide, at east the beach stretches toward the lagoon in a continum of chromatic variations that go from white transparent, to turquoise, with emerald blue stripes where the lagoon is crossed by channels since ever used by dhows to dock to the shore. Those who love to take long walks along the beach should prefer this area. The low tide offers the opportunity to walk toward the reef, encountering first beautiful starfish, then the first corals and finally the first tropical fishes. |

| The differential of tide is likely to be greater during the full moon. Between each extreme of tide there are 6 hours and 30, 6 hours and 55 minutes therefore there are 2 maximun tides and 2 minimum tide approximately every 27 hours, but always a little bit later than the day before. You must take account of that when wandering toward the barrier: when the high tide starts to come back it's time to return to the beach or you'll have to face a quite challenging swim . | |
