The old dispensary is a beautiful example of India's colonial architecture and for sure one of the most peculiar historical building of Zanzibar.
It has a U-shaped plan enclosing an open courtyard with overlooking galleries and long, beutifully intricated wood carved balconies on its front.
The building belonged to a prominant ismaili Khoja Indian, Sir Tharia Topan, who left it to to Haji Nasser Nurmohamed's community after his death.
Built on Queen Victoria's Jubilee year as a hospital it became, during colonial times, a dispensary.
The building has been successfully restored with funds coming from the Aga Khan foundation
and it's now known as the Stone Town Cultural Centre.
